Questions

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about maps, offline use and compliance.

What maps does The Hunting App use?

The Hunting App lets you import the maps you need, such as NSW DPIRD compliant state forest maps and your own topographic map layers. Import as many as you like, free forever. Premium Athena based map layers are coming soon.

Does The Hunting App work offline?

Yes. The Hunting App is offline-first. Maps, waypoints and GPS tracking work without phone signal, so you can navigate and record your hunt deep in the bush where there is no coverage.

What file formats can I import?

The Hunting App imports GeoPDF, GPX, KML and KMZ files. This lets you bring in maps and tracks from tools such as Google Earth, as well as official GeoPDF state forest maps.

Which states and areas are covered?

The Hunting App is built for Australia, with current focus on NSW Public Land and state forest maps, and plans to expand to other states. Because you can import your own GeoPDF and topographic maps, you can use it for any area you have a map for.

How much does The Hunting App cost?

Importing your own map layers is free forever. Premium Athena based map layers are coming soon and will be a paid option. The app is currently pre-launch; register your interest to be notified when access opens.

Does The Hunting App help with R-Licence compliance?

The Hunting App provides mapping tools designed to assist you in complying with DPIRD Hunting Written Permission Conditions when hunting on NSW Public Land with an R-Licence. You remain responsible for holding a valid R-Licence and for complying with all current rules and permission conditions.

Which devices are supported?

The Hunting App runs on both iOS and Android phones. A Field Lock Mode makes it usable with gloves and in tough field conditions.
